Lane Kiffin and LSU Face Harsh Reality Against Alabama
When Lane Kiffin arrived for the pre-game Tiger Walk flanked by celebrities like Shaquille O'Neal, Angel Reese, and Kevin Costner, the excitement surrounding the program reached a fever pitch. However, the immense anticipation surrounding LSU football crashed into reality on the field as No. 14 LSU suffered a 31-13 blowout loss against No. 5 Alabama. Despite holding a 13-10 lead in the third quarter, the Tigers surrendered 21 unanswered points, handing Kiffin his sixth consecutive defeat against the Crimson Tide.
High Hopes and Expensive Rosters Fall Short
The defeat dropped LSU to a 6-3 record overall and 0-3 against opponents currently listed in the College Football Playoff Rankings. According to 247Sports, Kiffin commands the most expensive roster in college football, approaching $50 million, backed by a lucrative seven-year, $91 million contract. Yet, in high-leverage moments, the Tigers struggled to capitalize. Alabama's defense stifled Kiffin's high-powered scheme, holding LSU to a field goal after a first-and-goal situation, forcing a missed field goal, and generating three turnovers on downs alongside two total turnovers.
