Noah Wyle is People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive 2026. The star of HBO's hit medical drama The Pitt takes the title for the first time, capping a remarkable career revival that has made him one of the most celebrated actors on television.
Searches for "Noah Wyle" and "Sexiest Man Alive 2026" jumped across the United States as the news spread.
Noah Wyle's Reaction
Wyle admitted he did not believe it at first. He said the news "sounded like a prank" and that he never expected the honor would be bestowed on him.
The win may not have surprised everyone, though. Back in January, at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards, his former ER co-star George Clooney joked that he would nominate Wyle as the first honoree of a "sexiest man still alive" issue, and said he wants to be Wyle when he grows up.
From ER to The Pitt
For a generation of viewers, Wyle will always be Dr. John Carter from NBC's ER, where he starred alongside George Clooney, Anthony Edwards, Julianna Margulies and Sherry Stringfield. The role earned him five Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe nominations, though he never won. ER aired its finale in 2009.
More than a decade later, Wyle returned to the emergency room, and this time the awards followed. On The Pitt, he plays Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, an overworked attending physician in a Pittsburgh trauma center. The role has brought him:
- Two Emmy Awards for lead actor in a drama series, in 2025 and 2026
- The 2026 Golden Globe for best actor in a TV drama
Across the show's first two seasons, Wyle's frustrated but devoted Dr. Robby has become the emotional center of the series, and his performance has made him an awards-season fixture.
Season 3 of The Pitt is set to premiere in January 2027.
The Sexiest Man Alive Tradition
People launched the title in 1985, when Mel Gibson was the first honoree, making 2026 the franchise's 41st year. Past winners include Patrick Dempsey, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, John Legend and Idris Elba.
Wyle succeeds Jonathan Bailey, the Wicked star who was named Sexiest Man Alive in 2025 and became the first openly gay man to receive the honor.
Not Everyone Agreed
As is tradition, the pick sparked debate online. Before the reveal, when Wyle emerged as the favorite, some social media users argued that the title "used to mean something." Others pointed to his long career and recent awards run as reasons the honor made sense.
What's Next for Noah Wyle
With Season 3 of The Pitt on the way, Wyle enters 2027 at the height of his career, more than 30 years after he first stepped into a TV emergency room.
